Do's and Don'ts when using the Baska Mask
DO’s
1. Keep the head and neck in neutral position with the head on a pillow
2. Lubricate the entire body of the mask with a water soluble lubricant
3. Ensure the mask has been advanced sufficiently until resistance is encountered. In this position the tip of the mask is engaged into the upper end of the oesophagus. The patient’s front teeth should approximate to the part of the tube into which the connectors are inserted.
DON’Ts
1. Do not block the vent, in anyway at anytime.
2. Do not extend or flex the neck during insertion.
3. Do not pull the tab until the mask is fully within the mouth.
4. Do not continue to pull the tab after the mask has negotiated the palato-pharyngeal curve.
